Why you should be visible in your business
Today I wanted to come in and talk to you about being visible in your design business and why it is actually a good thing to do even though it can be really, really confronting.
If you are creating pattern designs and you are wanting to get your work out there and being seen so you can start selling your designs, you’re probably on social media promoting and sharing your work. One of the things I’m going to challenge you to do is to let people know who you are on your social media feeds.
I know how confronting this can be because for me personally, I’m pretty much an introvert and very private so I know how confronting it can be but the more you get used to it, the easier it gets.
Letting people know who you are is a really good way of people getting to know you and your brand, what you stand for and it helps them to connect with you.
Visibility allows for connection
If you look through your Instagram feed at designers that you love, I’m sure you enjoy it when they post a picture and tell you a bit more about themselves. They are often the posts that people will stop on, like and want to read as it allows them to feel connected and connection is really important when you are using social media.
These days we’re all on social media so much and it’s easy to feel disconnected so being visible allows people to get to know a bit about you and your brand or business. So, as confronting as it is, I really encourage you to make yourself visible within your business. For example, if you have a website, on your about page make sure you have a photo of yourself as it really does help with connection.
This is also is true of your, social media feeds. Make sure that you are showing your face every now and then. It doesn’t have to be all the time, just enough so people feel connected to you. Letting people know who you are, will help people connect with you and will then, in turn, help you grow your following, help grow your engagement and let people know who and what your brand is about. And that’s a good thing because you’ll be able to attract the right people that you want to your brand and deter those that aren’t a good fit for you.
